AI Ceiling Fan Transition, Explained

The AI ceiling fan transition is an overhead outfit-change video: the camera looks straight down at someone lying on a rug, a ceiling fan turns between the lens and the person, and every time a blade sweeps across, the clothes change. It started as a filmed phone trick and went viral as an AI effect in late September 2026. Here you can make the 15-second vertical version from one selfie.

What the AI ceiling fan transition is

The AI ceiling fan transition is a vertical video shot from directly overhead. Someone lies on a rug, a ceiling fan spins between the camera and the person, and each blade that sweeps across the frame works as a wipe: when it has passed, the person is wearing a different outfit. The face, pose and room stay the same; only the clothes change, usually three or four times in about ten to fifteen seconds.

You will see it under several names. They all mean the same shot:

  • ceiling fan transition and fan transition
  • ceiling fan outfit change or fan outfit transition
  • under the fan, the name used on CapCut and Dreamina prompt pages
  • fan blade outfit change, often with “AI video” added when the clip is generated

Timeline: from a phone taped to the ceiling to an AI effect

WhenWhat happened
Early 2026

Filmed tutorials spread on Instagram: tape the phone to the ceiling facing down, shoot one clip per outfit and cut on the frame where a blade covers the lens. One popular tutorial credits the idea to an earlier creator.

Late September 2026

The AI version goes viral on TikTok. The Tab described it on 28 September 2026 as the trend where your outfit changes with every blade.

October 2026

Video tools add one-photo ceiling fan templates and prompt pages; “Haters will say it’s AI” becomes a common caption on both real and generated versions.

Music

No single official sound. Duran Duran’s “Girls on Film” is a frequent pick, as Kavel’s trend write-up also notes.

Filmed, CapCut or AI: which route fits you

All three routes end in the same kind of clip. They differ in what you need at home and how much control you get.

How to tell an AI version from a filmed one. In a filmed clip the person really moves between takes, so the body jumps slightly at each cut and the light changes with the time of day. AI clips are smoother but give themselves away in small things: blade edges that bend or multiply, a pattern on the rug that shifts, jewellery or shoes that appear and vanish, and hair that changes length between looks. If the fan has a different number of blades from one pass to the next, it is generated.

Beat map: what happens in the 15 seconds

Every video made here follows the same locked overhead scene, so you know where each look lands before you spend credits. The model takes the motion, room and fan from that scene and the person from your photo.

TimeOn screen
0–1.5 s

You roll off a sofa and land on your back on a pale rug, sunlight across the floor. Look 1.

about 5.4 sA blade covers your body; look 2 is there when it passes.
about 9 sNext full blade pass; look 3.
about 12.9 sLast change; look 4 holds to the end at 15 s.

What stays fixed: the camera, framing, room, three-blade fan and its speed, your position on the rug and the timing. What comes from your photos: the face, hair, skin tone and build from the face photo, and the garments, colours and prints from each outfit photo. What can drift: small details such as logos, fine prints, shoes and accessories, and a face seen in profile. Watch every look before you post.

Make it from one selfie: outfit photos or a theme pack

With My outfit photos, add exactly four pictures, one per look, in the order they should appear. Screenshots from a shop and flat-lay product shots both work; only the clothes and shoes are used, so a model, hanger or background in the picture is ignored. With a theme you skip outfit photos entirely: everyday, autumn, night out, Halloween and formal each give four different looks styled to the person in your photo, which suits a quick seasonal post.

Make the AI ceiling fan transition from one selfie

  1. 01

    Add one clear face photo

Use a photo of one person with the face fully visible, in JPG, PNG or WebP up to 10 MB. It does not need to be taken from above or show you lying down; the scene supplies the pose.

  2. 02

Pick four outfit photos or a theme

Choose My outfit photos and add four pictures in the order the looks should appear, or pick a theme (everyday, autumn, night out, Halloween or formal) if you have no outfit pictures.

  3. 03

Choose a model, resolution and sound

Wan 3.0 at 480p is the default. The button shows the exact credits before you start. Keep With music for the template sound, or choose Silent to add a TikTok or Reels sound yourself.

  4. 04

Watch the whole clip, then download

Check the face after each blade pass, the order of the looks and the shoes, then download the vertical MP4. Turn on the AI-generated label when you post it.

The face photo works best straight-on, in even light, with nothing covering the face. One person only: a group photo makes it unclear who belongs under the fan.

Is the AI ceiling fan transition free? Credits per video

Each video is 15 seconds, 9:16, with four looks. The default Wan 3.0 at 480p costs 67 credits; Seedance 2.0 Mini at 480p is the cheapest at 23 credits, and Seedance 2.5 at 720p costs 262. The price does not change between outfit photos and themes, or between music and silent.

QuestionWhat happens here
Free creditsEligible new accounts get 3 credits for 7 days. That alone does not reach the 23-credit minimum, so it cannot make a full video by itself. There is no separate free preview clip.
Smallest purchase$5.00 buys a one-time Trial pack of 24 credits. That covers 1 Seedance 2.0 Mini 480p video. Other models and resolutions cost more.
WatermarkAccounts without a paid order get a moving site watermark. Any successful purchase unlocks the clean originals of your own videos, including ones you already made, without generating again.
DownloadThe finished MP4 downloads from the result panel: 15 seconds, vertical 9:16, with the template sound unless you picked Silent.
Failed videoIf the job fails, including a Seedance 2.5 review that rejects a photo, the credits go back to your balance.
Finished but not what you wantedA video that completed is not refunded automatically. Another take is a new charge at the price shown on the button.

Resolution only sets the output size. A higher tier does not make the face more like you or fix a missed blade timing, so check a 480p take before paying for 720p or 1080p.

Film it yourself without putting a phone on the fan

If you would rather film it, never attach the phone to the fan or its blades. A spinning fan can throw the phone, and the shot you want is a fixed camera with the blades passing in front of it.

  1. Mount the phone below the fan, lens pointing down: a ceiling-height tripod or a boom arm from a high shelf, with the fan between lens and floor. If that is not possible, film from a ladder-height tripod and add the blade later as an overlay.
  2. Set the fan to its lowest speed and lock exposure and focus so the picture does not pulse as the blades pass.
  3. Lie in the same spot for every take. Mark the rug with tape where your head and feet go, and repeat the same pose.
  4. Film one take per outfit, each a few seconds long, with at least two blade passes in it.
  5. In CapCut, put the takes on one track and cut each one on the frame where a blade fully covers your body; the blade hides the jump. Add the sound in CapCut or after upload.

Fan outfit transition prompt for other AI video tools

The maker on this page needs no prompt. If you use a text or image-to-video model elsewhere, spell out the blade timing and the parts that must not change, then add the negative lines. Swap in your own looks.

Ceiling fan transition prompt (10 s, 9:16)
Vertical 9:16, 10 seconds, one continuous locked top-down shot. The person from the reference photo lies on their back on a pale rug. A large ceiling fan with exactly three dark blades turns slowly just below the camera, the blades sweeping across the lens. The person, face, hair, pose and room never change. Only the clothes change, and only while a blade fully covers the body: 0 s look 1 (white T-shirt and straight jeans); about 3 s look 2 (camel trench coat); about 5.5 s look 3 (black evening dress); about 8 s look 4 (cream knit and trousers). Clothes never morph while visible. Photorealistic, natural light.

Negative: extra blades, four or five blades, bent or melting blades, camera movement, zoom, second person, face change, hair change, outfit blending, clothes changing in view, text, logo, watermark.

AI ceiling fan transition FAQ

Is the AI ceiling fan trend the same as the old ceiling challenge or a CapCut fan template?

They look alike but are made differently. The filmed version is several real clips shot from the ceiling and cut together where a blade covers the lens. A CapCut fan template does the same cutting for clips or photos you supply. The AI version generates the whole shot, including the fan, from a photo, so you need no fan, tripod or wardrobe changes.

Where did the ceiling fan outfit transition come from?

It was a filmed transition first: creators taped a phone to the ceiling, changed outfits between takes and joined them on a blade pass. A widely shared Instagram tutorial from early 2026 credits the idea to an earlier creator. The AI version took off on TikTok in late September 2026, when tools began generating the same shot from one photo. No single original creator of the AI trend is verified.

What song do people use for the ceiling fan transition?

There is no single official sound. Duran Duran’s “Girls on Film” is one of the most common choices, and many posts use whatever trending audio fits four beats. Videos from this page come with the template music, or choose Silent and add a sound inside TikTok or Instagram so it is licensed for that platform.

Can I make it online in a browser without installing an app?

Yes. This page runs in Chrome, Safari or Edge on a laptop or phone: upload the photos, generate and download the MP4. You need an account so the credits and your private photos belong to you; nothing is installed.

Can two friends with separate selfies be in the same ceiling fan video?

Not on this page: each video has one person, because the scene is built around a single body on the rug. Make one video each and post them side by side or as a duet, or film the two-person version for real with a fixed overhead camera.

Why do the clothes start changing before the blade covers the body?

Prompt-only generators guess when to change, so the outfit can melt in the open. Here every video follows a fixed scene in which the looks change at about 5.4, 9 and 12.9 seconds while a blade is fully over the body. If a change still leaks, try Seedance 2.5 or use outfit photos with plain backgrounds.

Why does my AI fan get extra blades or the camera start moving?

From words alone a model often invents a four- or five-blade fan, bends the blades or drifts the camera. Copying a real reference shot fixes the fan size, blade count, speed and the locked camera. In your own prompts, say “three blades, camera locked overhead” and add the negative lines in the prompt block below.

Can I try it without an account or a credit card?

Eligible new accounts get 3 credits for 7 days. That alone does not reach the 23-credit minimum, so it cannot make a full video by itself. There is no separate free preview clip. Watching the examples needs no account. $5.00 buys a one-time Trial pack of 24 credits. That covers 1 Seedance 2.0 Mini 480p video. Other models and resolutions cost more.
